We are forever away from the college football season. No better time to over react. My chosen topic for the day is the College Football Playoff. I was looking around today and found out that Alabama has great odds for the championship and I was a little surprised. From Betonline, Alabama currently has the 5th best odds to win it all. Now you might not be a person that puts much weight in betting odds, but I am. I have been gambling for a long time and it is insane how correct Vegas is about things. Sure they miss sometimes, but more often than not they know what they are talking about. Let’s give it a quick break down.

12 Team Playoff

As of right now, Alabama is +1100 to win the Championship. That is behind only Georgia, Ohio State, Texas, and Oregon. Not too bad all things considered. So this season will be the first season of the 12 team playoff format. If you look back at the last 3 seasons, any team that wants to be in the top 12 come selection Sunday can’t have more than 2 losses. Although, Utah made it with 3 losses in 2021 and 2022 along with Kansas State in 2022. But still, 33 out of 36 teams had 2 losses or better. Basically what I’m saying is Alabama can’t lose more than 2 games if they are going to make it in.

Now if we take a look at their schedule for next season…it’s not easy. No Texas this year, but they are adding in Georgia plus road games at Tennessee, LSU and Oklahoma. I don’t want to leave out a road game at Wisconsin, but I’m going to leave out the road game at Wisconsin. If you care to be cocky with the other games and call them wins, Alabama just has to find a way to at least split the before mentioned SEC games. That seems doable to me. But of course this is basically uncharted territory for an Alabama team.

Should You Take Alabama?

A lot of people say you should never bet on your own team. I have never gone along with that. So I will probably put a little money on Alabama to win the championship. The odds just look too good and it will make me cheer even harder. That Georgia game will be week 4 of the season, so if you were trying to go for even better odds you could wait until after that game. Georgia will likely be the front runners for most of the year and if they beat Alabama that early in the season their odds could go above that +1100 number.

But that would be expecting Alabama to lose. And I will never expect Alabama to lose. It felt really weird just typing that Alabama just needs to win 2 out of 4 tough games. I also get a lot of players have left, but there is still a lot of talent around the team. I am gaining confidence in this team every day and it’s not even February. It’s only going to keep building.
